Message from Matthew

MATTHEW WARD was killed in a freak accident on 17 April 1980 when he was only 17. His mother Suzanne (Suzy) was understandably distraught. She called a medium with whom she had become friendly three years before, when they had lived in the same city, and asked about her son. The medium told her that he was in "deep rest"; she would receive an unmistakable sign when he was ready to send her a message, and when that time came, she would be led to a trustworthy medium. Nine months later Suzy had a dream about Matthew, and soon after that she found several mediums who put her in touch with her beloved son.

In February 1994, nearly 14 years after Matthew's abrupt departure from the physical world, Suzy Ward (right) discovered she was able to link up telepathically with the intelligence field that had once been incarnate as Matthew. She began a regular dialogue with Matthew which eventually resulted in her first book
- Matthew, Tell Me About Heaven - followed by several other titles. I first heard about Suzy Ward through a mutual friend, Jean Hudon, who was translating her book into French. Jean sent me a soft copy to review - and since then I've been on Suzy Ward's mailing list for her regular Matthew bulletins. Here's an excerpt from Suzy's latest "Message from Matthew," dated 19 April 2008:

Now then, millennia of dark control on Earth cannot be eradicated swiftly because the collective third density belief is that it cannot. It is the negativity still remaining that keeps the majority of souls in that density, where there is little conscious awareness of the innate manifesting ability, so planetary cleansing and wakening hearts and minds must be a process instead of one fell swoop. However, the process is moving far more quickly than may be realized. Whereas the “seesaw” of duality in humankind once was steadily lopsided with the density of negativity, now it is speeding along its up-and-down energy balancing course. When you know about food shortages; more violence on individual, national and international scales; increasing numbers of homeless; and collapsing financial institutions; please know that those are being balanced by stronger demands for an end to oppressive rulers, greater emphasis on negotiating settlements to conflicts, more extensive outreach to lessen the suffering of peoples, louder demands for honest elections, and ever-growing awareness of the need to stop desecrating the planet. Putting any and all negative aspects of your world in the context of that balancing act shows that the light, wherein all is balance, is hastening the day when duality no longer is a part of your world. You will have successfully completed your mission to help Earth rise out of third density!

What is not reported except on some sites on the Internet — where both honest and dishonest information is promulgated, so be discerning — is what is happening “undercover.” Members of your universal family from distant civilizations are working hand in hand with Earth citizens to legally and firmly set a new foundation for governing and commerce to replace the old systems that are in shambles. These brothers and sisters from afar are not there to set this new direction, but to assist your emerging leaders bring to reality your vision: a peaceful world where cooperation replaces conflict and abundance replaces need; where no soul is deprived of God-given and civil rights; children feel loved, secure and see a bright future; sound health is a given; just laws prevail and pollution is history; differences are respected; women are honored as the goddesses they are; where humankind live in harmony with Nature and recognize the light essence of all Creation. Your universal family has the spiritual awareness, intelligence and technology to help you achieve this world of your vision with amazing speed.

Yes, we have given that assurance before too, but there is reason to do it again. There are pockets of speculation, even belief, that as a last resort to retain control, dark ones in power will stage a “space invasion” to unify all peoples in a common fear of the alien invaders. Thereupon the stagers would impose martial law, arrest dissenters on a massive scale, and create chaos never before seen on your planet. Even as they give no recognition whatsoever to the many reports of UFOs in your skies, they would try to plausibly fit those sightings of spacecrafts into their “invasion” plans. Oh my! What is in chaos is the mentality of the ones who would try such a stunt! There will be NO “space invasion,” and you can rely on your benevolent brothers and sisters to thwart efforts to bring the “little grays” in battle gear out of their underground cities as proof that aliens have landed.

Continuing to respond to the interests of email writers, some of you ask me to stop the horrors you recount. Dear souls, not even all of us at this station or all lighted souls in spirit throughout the universe can stop what has been set in motion in your world. What we are permitted to do is beam love energy to fortify your light so you can stop the horrors yourselves! Indeed, with immeasurable help from other civilizations, but again, they are responding to Earth’s request and your fervent desire to live in the kind of world YOU want.

Scene from 'The Last Mimzy' (New Line Cinema)

I say “thank you” to the thoughtful soul who wants to know how to prepare children for the future, and I reply: by example. Live fearlessly; be honest; express your thankfulness for the blessings in your life and the beauties of Earth; share generously with persons in need; show reverence for all life; become involved in measures to preserve or restore the environment; keep your mind open to new perspectives; be discerning in your decisions; be resilient, learn from failed efforts, and try again; dump emotional garbage, and laugh and smile often; forgive those who hurt you and forgive yourself for hurting others. To this I add: listen. Let the children’s voices be heard. Encourage them to talk about their ideas, fears, plans, hopes, dreams, disillusionment and disappointments; encourage them to set realistic but not limiting goals; encourage them to emulate but not compare themselves with individuals who inspire them. And above all, love them. By how you live, you show them the power of unconditional love for themselves, all others and Nature.

Another writer brought up a topic that needs to be widely known — everything that happens on Earth affects the universe. For far too long those happenings have been negative and the consequences have affected myriad souls in lower densities. Civilizations in higher densities are not adversely affected, but they are set the task of assisting the lower density souls awaken from spiritual oblivion. Lifting the consciousness of even one soul aids in uplifting all others — if you think of the Oneness of All and how a chain needs every link to be strong or the chain itself is weak, you can see why the spiritually strong souls take on their task eagerly and lovingly. The writer mentioned “the explorer race humans” and “Creator apprentices.” You have many designations for and delineations of soul status, but the more one evolves, the less need there is to make those kinds of differentiations — the light in each soul is sufficient distinction. However, I believe “the explorer race humans” refers to souls who, in multiple lives from antiquity onward, have known the light essence of their beginnings and have been the way-showers for less evolved beings; and “Creator apprentices” are souls entering or are mired in third density, like almost all of Earth’s residents for millennia. You who travel with her to her destination in fifth destiny will become way-showers, and in some cases, it will be a return to that evolutionary status.

Three topics often mentioned are the prevalence of chemtrails, the wanton slaughtering of animal life and continuing depletion of rainforests, often by government sanctions. These lamentable situations are part and parcel of the negative end of the energy of duality that is playing itself out.

It is so that elements in chemtrails are harming health, but please consider: The worst of the toxins are being neutralized or ameliorated by your space family’s technology; by believing that you can strengthen your immune systems, you have the power to resist chemtrails’ toxic effects; and like all other negativity still plaguing Earth, as the light keeps intensifying, chemtrails and the darkness that conceived them will cease.

Reforestation will occur nearly as rapidly as the willful destruction of the trees has taken place. No, not under conditions still prevailing, but when Earth is within higher densities, the combination of those frequencies and the technology of your space family will restore the land in that respect just as they will purify all areas where in this moment, polluting is rampant.

As the consciousness of humankind rises, so too does the consciousness of all other life on the planet, which makes even sadder the maltreatment and destruction of animals. It is inevitable that this will continue until the light is so strong that every living soul will befriend instead of kill any species. But even in the interim there is a ray of light, and I hope this will lessen the despair so many of you feel about the plight of animals.

Others ask about politics — to be or not to be involved and on whose side — and to this I would say, if you follow your heart, you cannot err. It is what YOU strongly feel that is important, the “signals” you receive from what you may call inner guidance or messages from your soul or your higher self. To those of you who want to know the outcome of the presidential election in the United States or other nations where elections are occurring, some under dispute and world scrutiny, we cannot tell you. Yes, this is now clear in Earth’s energy field of potential as the momentum of the light may take mild, brief detours, but its course is unstoppable; however, never may we disclose what could influence your decisions or actions. Nor can we chart your personal pathways — this is in response to you who ask me to enlighten you about your life mission, and in that regard too, I say follow your heart.

How to lessen the impact of the global economic situation? We rejoice in seeing how financial adversity has led so many souls to help each other! One to one, or those with a great deal sharing with many, and by this means, as individuals you are making a significant difference in the life of another or many others. And be heartened by knowing that genuine resolution to the collapsing system is underway. I’m not referring to the desperate steps taken by governments and financial institutions — those are to keep the monetary boat afloat to enrich the wealthy — but to the lighted beings among you who are establishing an orderly transition from unconscionable inequality to fair allocation of not only money, but all the world’s resources.

How to know when Earth’s ascension is completed? It will be unmistakable! Your heart will be filled with joy as you see your world in peace, all peoples living cooperatively and harmoniously with all of Nature. The questioner asked as well for a definite date, and to that I can only say what I have said many times: Linear time is disappearing and the reality of the timeless continuum is being felt as time passing faster and faster. It would be wise for all of you to stop living in the “absoluteness” of calendars and instead, make each day fulfilling and productive. It also would be wise to withdraw from preoccupation with trivialities and from the impatience of “I want to know NOW,” and put that energy into listening to your soul’s voice and visualizing yourself in Earth’s Golden Age.

GET ANWAR! The Trials of Anwar Ibrahim

On 3 October 2000, ABC (Australia) broadcast this powerful documentary about the sordid political circumstances surrounding Anwar Ibrahim's trial in 1999. This footage was digitized, compressed and uploaded on YouTube on 26 December 2007 - just in time for Malaysia's epochal 12th General Election. I first viewed the documentary sometime in 2001 on a VHS copy somebody lent me; and a few weeks ago I viewed all seven parts on YouTube. I think this is an extremely well-researched and competently produced documentary that deserves to be permanently archived as a reminder to all Malaysians of the terrible evils of dictatorial misrule, a corrupt judiciary, and a politically compromised police force. Eight years later, it appears that little has changed.... or is that just a delusion on the part of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's Barisan Nasional government?

Old Doc Croc just dug his own PR grave. Nevertheless, to his credit, Mahathir is one of the few who dares speak out against the Zionist-controlled western media - and that's the only point in his entire interview where we actually see eye-to-eye!

SWAN LAKE (by the Great Chinese State Circus Ballet Company)

The Great Chinese State Circus Ballet Company performs scenes from Swan Lake on the popular German TV program, Wetten, dass..? (January 26, 2008). This is like nothing you've ever seen. With talent of this magnitude one is almost tempted to forgive the Chinese government its atrocious human rights record. However, in view of the preposterously cruel and ruthless misbehavior of the Israeli and the American governments in recent decades, the Chinese may not be the only evil ones on this planet. After all, in the last 50 years China has invaded only one country - Tibet.

A Vancouverian View of Malaysian Politics

ANWAR COMES OUT TOP AGAIN IN MALAYSIA'S POLITICAL BRAWLS

Jonathan Manthorpe, Vancouver Sun
Published: Friday, April 18, 2008

Revenge is sweet and Malaysia's former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim seems intent on savouring every drop.

A decade after Anwar was elbowed into the political scrap heap when a compliant court convicted him of fabricated sodomy and corruption charges, he is poised to become prime minister.

Anwar's resurgence comes as the United Malay National Organization (UMNO), which has dominated the country's government since independence from Britain in 1957 and of which Anwar used to be deputy leader, implodes into a brawl of backstabbing, power lust and greed.

What set off this ferret fight was March 8 elections when voters among the southeast Asian nation's 20 million people, despairing of the endemic corruption, nepotism and cronyism in the UMNO-led National Front ruling coalition, gave it a mighty face-slap.

The National Front did win a majority in the 222-seat parliament, but it lost the two-thirds majority it has enjoyed for more than 50 years and the opposition alliance led by Anwar won power in five of Malaysia's 13 states.

The wind of change appears to be blowing Anwar's way and almost immediately within UMNO the calls began for the removal of the gentlemanly but ineffective prime minister and party leader, Abdullah Badawi.

Abdullah took over the leadership in 2003 on the retirement after 22 years at the helm of the irascible and recalcitrant Mahathir Mohamad.

It was Mahathir who engineered the downfall of his deputy, Anwar, when they fell out over how to deal with the Asian economic crisis of 1997. And it is Mahathir, 82, together with one of his sons, Mahathir Mukhriz, who are playing large roles in the campaign to dump Abdullah.

In one of the most open acts of rebellion so far, Mukhriz, who is an UMNO member of parliament, this week called on Abdullah to immediately transfer power to his deputy, Najib Razak, so the party can be stabilized and rehabilitated.

Well, Najib is not an obvious candidate for the role of cleansing new broom.

Najib is embroiled in a number of classic Malaysian procurement scandals from his time as defence minister.

Even more explosive is the trial of two of his bodyguards for the 2006 murder of Mongolian model and professional escort Altantuya Shaariibuu, the troublesome and demanding mistress of Najib's closest friend, Abdul Razak Baginda.

UMNO is the perfect example of a floundering political ship where the rats are rushing around hunting for life jackets.

This is a moment of huge opportunity for Anwar and his three-party coalition led by his People's Justice party, as he acknowledged on Monday at a mass rally in the capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Anwar's opposition alliance, the People's Coalition, won 82 seats in last month's election and needs to entice only 30 members from the government National Front to be able to claim power.

At Monday's rally, Anwar said he has been approached by many National Front MPs looking to cross the floor to the coming man.

"Yes, we have enough MPs to topple the government," he said. "We are saying here for the first time that we are ready to rule.

"But we will only enter when the majority is comfortable. Do we want to be a government with a two- or five-seat majority?"

The answer at the moment is clearly not.

While Anwar and his alliance have political power in Malaysia within their grasp, there are some significant hurdles to be negotiated.

The first is that Anwar must win a seat in parliament in a byelection. He did not become eligible to run until Monday when a five-year ban on his involvement electoral politics ran out.

Although his conviction and nine-year prison sentence for sodomy was overturned by the Federal Court in 2003 after Mahathir's retirement, he had already completed the six-year sentence for corruption, to which the ban was attached.

Then there's the question of whether he really wants to come to power with the aid of UMNO's deserters, who will be seen as soiled goods even if they are not. Few people will believe floor-crossers were not bought.

Meanwhile, the National Front is rushing to deter floor-crossers by making it illegal for MPs to change parties without fighting a byelection.

A Stroke of Insight ~ Jill Bolte Taylor

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor suffered a stroke in 1996 from which she took eight years to recover. During the episode she remained lucid and was able to report a mystical experience she had while her left brain hemisphere was disabled by a blood clot. Her insight is brilliant, vivid and of immeasurable value to our understanding of the nature of holographic reality. She articulates it engagingly and passionately. I initially found her accent grating, but after a few minutes I got into her story and found it rewarding enough to share on this blog.

UNSINKABLE FLOATING OBJECTS

Sim Kwang Yang has raised some very pertinent issues in his essay, "Whom should we trust?" Ultimately, we have to love and trust ourselves before we can love and trust anybody else. Otherwise we will end up behaving like the proverbial lemming, incapable of independent thought and action.

Every day I bump into people who continue to parrot well-worn clichés about Anwar Ibrahim being tainted during his long stint in Umno, his unrelenting political ambition, his connections with the Zionist banking fraternity - and, worst of all, the Islamic zeal that first shot him to prominence as a hot-headed leader of ABIM (the Muslim Missionary Movement). All these negative perceptions of the man are ultimately rooted in deep fear of individuals like Anwar Ibrahim whose lives seem like epics compared to most of us.

Every culture produces its own cult heroes - strangers who appear from out of nowhere, slay an ogre, marry a princess, and end up ruling the kingdom. Most of us are fascinated by heroes. After all, that's where our role models come from. However, in recent times, with the rise of the corporate superpower, heroes have become a manufactured product. The mass media conspires to transform ordinary folks into superstars - and then, almost inevitably, they commit deicide by ripping their icons to shreds through vicious gossip and slander.

Sim rightly advises us to reclaim the authority that resides within each of us, to embody within our own beings the noble qualities of the hero. This is the mark of a mature individual. As more of us become our own heroes, we shall no longer be in awe of other heroes. Instead we will befriend and cooperate with them to manifest our collective dream of the Promised Land.

During Mahathir's 22-year reign as PM, he effectively dismantled all the mechanisms by which citizens of a functional democracy can replace non-performing or misbehaving public servants. Without journalistic freedom, no real information reaches the ground, only corporate propaganda. Without academic, artistic and intellectual freedom there can be no open dialogue on values, perceptions and collective visions. Without a politically neutral civil service and police force, a climate of Orwellian absolutism prevails. And without an impartial and independent judiciary, no justice can exist, nor can serious wrongs be righted.

In effect, Malaysian politics under Mahathir was like a public toilet with no working flush mechanism. There's nothing more unpleasant than walking into the loo only find Unsinkable Floating Objects in the bowl. With no flush - and no bucket and pail to perform the job manually - we had no choice but resign ourselves to the less-than-delightful odor and the disgusting sight of public servants, fattened on sleazy lucre, who simply refused to resign or retire even when they had long overstayed their welcome.

Rather than succumb to mistrust and fear, we would do much better to regard Anwar Ibrahim as the Master Plumber who will take on the unpleasant but absolutely necessary task of fixing the flush mechanism. Once that is accomplished, nobody will be reluctant to "get their hands dirty" by participating in local politics as every adult citizen should. The public bowels will be regularly moved and Malaysia's infamous stinky loos will become a nightmare of our collective past. In other words, let's get a grip on our conditioned reflexes. BN has ruled us for 50 years by playing on our fears. They fanned the flames of the non-Malays' Islamophobia even as they played up the Malays' anxieties about being overwhelmed by noisy platoons of pig-eating pagans.

In a fear-free atmosphere of open discussion - such as we are experiencing for the first time courtesy of the Internet - clarity, truth and wisdom have a much better chance to prevail over atavistic superstitions and taboos. When the public lavatories are clean and functional, people will be less likely to walk around full of their own crap - and public servants who become bloated with egotism and greed will find themselves unceremoniously flushed away.

Saving Up for Sufiah Yusof

What a fabulous fiasco it turned out to be, the hue and cry over the recent revelation by a scabious Murdoch-owned tabloid (News of the World) that a female math prodigy who entered Oxford University at 13 was now working in Manchester as a "£130-an-hour hooker" ten years later. Why the hue and cry? Simply because the girl, Sufiah Yusof, was supposedly Muslim, one of five children born to a Pakistani father and a Malaysian mother.

Like everybody else I found the story intriguing enough for me to poke my nose into it - and what I found online was a series of provocative poses uploaded as a slide show by the News of the World. Now I must admit I took an instant shine to Sufiah, especially after watching an interview with her. She came across as a highly articulate, self-confident, sexually liberated young woman who had consciously decided to embark on a lucrative career as a professional erotician. Luscious bod too.

"I've had some of the best sex I've ever had working in this job," she says candidly. Sufiah sounds totally British, so it's rather odd that some Malaysians still believe they have some sort of claim over her as a "princess of the soil." The truth is, what Sufiah does with her life is none of their fucking business, no pun intended. Okay, during the Mahathir era the Malaysian government did sponsor Sufiah's studies in the hope that she would someday do her motherland proud. But dammit the kid was only 12 at the time and it was her dad Farooq who came up with this insane and cruel method of "accelerated learning" designed to hydroponically produce academic geniuses. Not surprisingly, Farooq Yusof was recently jailed for molesting two 15-year-old students who were taking home tuition from him. You can imagine what sort of relationship Sufiah had with her dad.

But this blogpost isn't about Sufiah Yusof, even though she inspired it. What I want to talk about is the erotophobia of the Abrahamic religions which has turned repressed sexuality into a multi-billion dollar industry.

The crux of the problem is that morality has become inextricably linked to sexual behavior when morality and sex have very little to do with each other. Cutting edge thinker Robert Anton Wilson often wrote about the conflict between what he called the logogram and the biogram. Morality is part of the logogram - a set of assumptions and beliefs conjured by the verbal mind. Sexuality is part of the biogram - a reproductive strategy activated by biochemical, bioelectrical and sensory processes that do not take their cues from the analytical mind.

In other words, the language-processing conceptual mind creates artificial boundaries and limitations and then assumes they are real and universal; while the body operates on a complex series of autonomous programs triggered by the endocrinal and hormonal systems, evolved over billions of earth years.

The late great Austrian psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich (left) theorized that sexual repression is the source of many psychological and social problems. The split between mind (logogram) and body (biogram) causes us to destroy each other and our planet, Reich believed, and is the underlying cause of warfare. Reich saw the ability to lose ourselves in sexual ecstasy as the ultimate measure of well being. He held that neurosis is none other than the sum total of all chronically automatic inhibitions of natural sexual excitation, and everything else is the result of this original disturbance. Reich's psychotherapeutic goal was to restore the primacy of our sensual nature. To really let go during the sexual experience. Not just an orgasm but a complete, full release. For Reich, a key question was: Why did people support the Nazis? Reich found that several things went together in Nazi Germany:

* Strong paternal authority
* Sexual repressiveness
* authoritarian values
* reactionary political ideologies

Sexual desires naturally urge a person to enter into all kinds of relations with the world, and to enter into close contact with others in a variety of forms. If these urges are repressed, they can only express themselves within the narrow confines of the family. In patriarchy, there is much more emphasis on sexual control than in matriarchy. If all the wealth passes through the father, you want to be very sure who the father is. If it passes through the mother, there is less concern as to who the father is. Monogamy will cease to be presented as the only legitimate form of sexual bonding. [Brief summary of a paper by Victor Daniels of Sonoma State University]

E.F. Baker, in an essay on Reich published in the Journal of Orgonomy wrote:

"Reich could only conclude that sex, which was formerly believed to be solely for reproductive purposes, had the vitally important function of maintaining a stable energy level within the organism. It would follow, then, that without sexual repression, there would be no neuroses. This is indeed the case in those societies that are sex-affirmative, such as the Trobriand Islanders'. Such societies are matrilineal in structure. In western civilization (and most Asiatic and other countries), a patriarchal form of social structure exists which is sex-negative. We have, therefore, to be concerned with the social cause of sexual problems and hence neuroses. Our whole society is oriented against true sexual freedom and, from infancy on, every effort is made to inhibit and repress any sexual manifestations. Boys and girls alike are severely reprimanded for any curiosity about the other's body, and adolescents who engage in sexual relations can be severely punished. Thus, only a few are allowed to grow up with a natural sexual attitude, and yet, when they marry, they are supposed to be able to function. Few find or attain a satisfying sexual relationship even in our day when youths are boldly showing their sexual interest and demanding its fulfillment."

So why would anyone be willing to spend £130 (approximately RM870) just for a sexual romp with Sufiah Yusof? It's simply because she has figured out that the majority of men can't find sexual gratification at home and are happy to pay handsomely for a really fantastic fuck. Few women, once they're married and have children, bother to remain sexually appealing to their husbands. By specializing in the erotic arts, Sufiah capitalizes on fulfilling male fantasies of carefree, no-holds-barred sexual play. If an occasional evening out with somebody like Sufiah Yusof can help maintain a man's sanity, then that £130 can be considered money well spent.

Those who believe Sufiah Yusof needs to be saved from a life of sin and godlessness are themselves most likely to suffer from acute sexual repression. Growing up in a patriarchal culture and indoctrinated with erotophobic beliefs that equate pleasure with immorality, the existence of a sexually liberated female like Sufiah threatens the fundaments of their belief systems.

If I were living in the vicinity of Manchester, I might be sorely tempted to look Sufiah up. Not with the thought of saving her, of course, but it would be absolutely delicious to have a juicy discussion on algorithms and integral calculus with her while nonchalantly peeling off her algebra. Well, I'd better start saving up. This foxy lady who began life as a math genius doesn't come cheap!

BN Cybertrooper Posting on Malaysiakini?

I couldn't resist responding to this patently spurious letter published on Malaysiakini today.

Chin Chai Ho? Is that a bona fide by-line, I wonder - or one of Azalina's legendary cybertroopers out on an anti-Anwar spin? Sorry, Chin Chai Ho. You'll have to do better than that. Your opinion piece looks like an opinion; it even reads like an opinion piece; but when I hold it against my nose, I smell styrofoam. And perhaps a whiff of cincalok.

Take this paragraph for example:

"Anwar Ibrahim and his associates in the DAP and PAS want the people to believe that the country is coming apart due to massive corruption and mismanagement by the Barisan Nasional government. Yes, there have been some corrupt practices by certain quarters in the government; no one condones them. One Zakaria of Klang does not make all the 500-odd state assembly persons in the country corrupted too. There are other cases of corruption but definitely the country is not riddled by these corrupted officials nor the country is coming apart. Our officials and civil servants are generally a dedicated and honest lot."

Hello, Mr Chin (Or is it Mr Ho?)! I've lived here since I was born a very long time ago and I don't need Anwar, Kit Siang or Nik Aziz to tell me BN has mismanaged my country for as long as I can remember. The only reason why I chose NOT to migrate is that I am a warrior at heart - and I decided 20 years ago I would grow a deep root here and live to see the demise of fear-and-greed driven politics and the passing of the Age of Corruption. We're almost there now... if not for the unfortunate fact that the BN still retains control of the federal government apparatus. Which means they can choose to maintain repressive laws and retain well-trained goons like Gani Patail, Musa Hassan and all the wet-bummed hacks running the mass media. Indeed, many of us don't need any convincing that BN actually LOST control of Malaysia on March 8th. If it hadn't been for the massive cheating and unfair advantages at BN's disposal, right now they would be crushed beyond recognition, blown to smithereens like some Mongolian Mata Hari.

In their hearts BN know they have no business forming the federal government anymore. But it's scary to find yourself suddenly vulnerable and liable to prosecution for gross abuse of power and misappropriation of public funds. Doesn't matter if you're already retired. As Param Cumaraswamy rightly says, "There is no expiry date on crime." That's why you would cling by your fingernails to the last vestiges of power and, with your last ounce of strength, try to push your political foes down the stairs or trip them as they walk by.

The day Anwar Ibrahim (or Wan Azizah) becomes PM, many in the BN will shit their pants and quite a few will do a Zakaria Mat Deros. Anwar returns from the political wilderness of his 6-year imprisonment like the ghost of Altantuya Shaariibuu or Jalil Ibrahim (the conscientious auditor who was murdered in Hong Kong while investigating the BMF scandal). To be publicly humiliated and privately beaten up, poisoned, and punished for being ambitious - and since when has ambition been a crime? It's no secret that Anwar was already in line to become PM, having been given the post of Finance Minister as well as Deputy Prime Minister. But Mahathir is one of those aberrated egos who cannot tolerate being overtaken on the road to immortal glory - he is the original source of road rage! Not that I believe the Pakatan Rakyat government will be vindictive. But just for them to do their job honestly and efficiently would be punishment enough for all the arrogant and greedy cacing that have had their heyday under the dacing.

Mr Ho Ho Ho says: "For goodness sake give us a break. Surely the people can see his true intention. All he wants is the prime minister-ship and the power that goes with it."

My friend, whoever you are, we all know that. Everybody knows that. Anwar Ibrahim would like to be the PM because he has been training his whole life for the job, since he was a kid, probably. I've watched him address the crowds at ceramahs. I've studied his every move and raised my cap in admiration of his stamina and strength-of-will. I know he wants to be PM and I would very much like to see him get the job. In fact many of us have been waiting since 1998 to see justice done and destiny fulfilled. And you know what quality Anwar Ibrahim has that makes me name him our best candidate for PM? Natural intelligence. That's one quality that has been conspicuously absent in politics for a very long while. And don't point at Mahathir and tell me he's even more intelligent. Mahathir is indeed cunning - but that does not equate with true intelligence or he would have apologized, shut up, and relocated to Mauritius years ago.

So what the dickens are you talking about? Chin Chai Cakap ah?

PARTY HOPPING & THE ETHICS OF DEFECTION

ONG KIAN MING is a PhD candidate in political science at Duke University and OON YEOH is a writer and new media analyst. You can listen to both of them discuss this topic in their Realpolitik podcast. Read the original post at Malaysiakini.

I can understand and, in principle, agree with Ong Kian Ming and Oon Yeoh's prescription of choosing the moral high ground over the political expedient of accepting crossovers to the Pakatan Rakyat from a disintegrating BN. However, much as the strategy of accelerating the Pakatan Rakyat's takeover of the Federal government through negotiated crossovers is fraught with uncertainties and ethical ambiguities, I would applaud - and even encourage - such a move.

One month after the tectonic shift of the March 8th elections, it is clear to all observers that the BN sadly lacks professional ethics and dedication to the national good. Instead of quickly regaining their dignity by openly and willingly cooperating with the new Pakatan Rakyat state governments, BN diehards like Azalina Othman and Mohd Khir Toyo are actively focused on sabotaging and punishing what they perceive as the enemy. They are unable to see that the Pakatan Rakyat represents the will of an overwhelming majority of Malaysians. By declaring war against the Pakatan, BN has effectively become the enemy of the people and, as such, cannot be trusted to act in the public interest rather than its own narrow party interests.

Each day the Federal government continues to be under BN control is another day of momentum lost in the direction of genuine reform. There is no political will within BN to address urgent issues like judicial rot and a less than professional police force. Abdul Gani Patail stubbornly clings to his position as Attorney-General and nobody has resigned from the ACA. Police reports filed against members of the former state excos in Penang, Kedah, Perak and Selangor for illegally removing or destroying official documents and records have led to absolutely no action - or at least none that I'm aware of. THe BN-owned media obstinately persist in their ingrained habit of partisan reportage, and all Umno can think about is its own survival as a no longer relevant monoethnic political party in a new transethnic political landscape.

One thing we can be sure of: every move the BN makes from now on will be aimed at undermining the Pakatan Rakyat instead of seizing this historic moment to genuinely reform itself.

So, even though it will spawn a measure of ethical ambiguity, the pragmatic wisdom of dealing the BN government a death blow NOW - before they have time to drag us deeper into irreversible ruin - holds a strong appeal. Many of us, like Ong Kian Ming and Oon Yeoh, are wary of sudden, radical change. Ong and Yeoh are academics and theoreticians with no dirt on their hands. Seasoned politicians like Anwar Ibrahim, Nik Aziz and Lim Kit Siang understand that no movement is possible without a little bit of zigzagging - indeed, that's how bipeds move in an apparent straight line, by swinging from left to right and back again. Instead of fearing contradiction, let us embrace it as the only way to organic truth.

I would prefer to give the BN crossovers the benefit of the doubt. It would be totally unrealistic to assume that everybody who enters politics does so to serve his or her community. Every creature is programmed to seek optimum advantage for itself. The more intelligent ones know their self-advantaging activities have to align and coincide with what benefits the greater community, otherwise they will soon be curtailed. Let's envision this: if 30 BN crossovers allow Pakatan Rakyat the option of taking over the Federal government in 2008 instead of 2012, there will be far less likelihood that we will all be dragged down with the sinking BN.

Perhaps the price isn't such a high one? Some of these crossover politicians are doing so primarily because they feel their leadership potential hasn't been appreciated and cannot be realized within BN. Why not give them a chance to prove their worth as Pakatan Rakyat MPs? Take a closer look at the illustration of a frog above. If you lean your head to the right you'll see it turns into a horse - and right now the Pakatan Rakyat requires more horsepower to outrun the vicious BN dogs snapping at its heels.

Hey, Let's Start A Hand Fart Orchestra!

While sitting in front of your computer watching the BN implode and disintegrate, here's something to entertain and inspire you. Yes, just like the filler programs TV stations broadcast on election night while you're waiting for the results to come trickling in. Who knows, some of the BN ministers who suddenly found themselves jobless after March 8th may turn out to be closet musicians - now they have so much time on their hands!

MAY THE FARTS BE WITH YOU! HERE'S THE ORIGINAL "HANDS SOLO"...

His name is Gerry (Jerry) Phillips and he has been playing songs on his hands for 40 years. This is Jerry's interpretation of Dragonforce, Through the Fire and Flames.

JERRY PHILLIPS PLAYS HENRY MANCINI'S 'PINK PANTHER' THEME:

Jerry Phillips: "This goes out to all my nieces and nephews in Australia and New Zealand (yes, you too, Elliott!) Merry Christmas! I love all of you (yes, you too, Elliott!) I used a digitech whammy pedal and a boss digital delay pedal on this song."

Fart of The Bumblebee by Jerry Phillips.

THE THEME FROM ROCKY:

Jerry Phillips: "My wife, Queen Elizabeth, wanted me to play this song. so, happy sweetest day honey! I used a digitech whammy pedal, a boss auto wah, and a boss digital sustain pedal."

JERRY PHILLIPS AND THE FAMOUS 007 THEME:

Jerry Phillips: "My mission (if i choose to accept it) is to stop Ernst Blowfart and his organization S.P.H.I.N.C.T.E.R. from gassing the world! I used a digitech whammy pedal, a boss metal zone pedal and a boss digital delay pedal on this song."

DAVE BRUBECK'S TAKE FIVE:

Jerry Phillips: "This song put jazz on the charts. It's always been a favorite of mine. a very hard song to play on any instrument because of the 5/4 time signature. I used a digitech whammy pedal on this song."

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...

THE BOTTLE OF WINE

For all of us who are married, were married, wish they were married, or wish they weren't married, this is something to smile about the next time you see a bottle of wine:

Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

"What in bag?" asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two.

Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said:

"Good trade....."

Just say "ANWAR IBRAHIM" at an Umno forum!

Umno “gentlemen” at their best, at the mere mention of Anwar. It’s crazy how this can be both so distressing and amusing at the same time. Read the rest at Nat's blog!

DOLLAH GOES DEEP SHIT FISHING...

In his own inimitable style, breaking news from Sheih's kickdefella blog (Heaven knows how he gets these amazing scoops, must be a 'Ganu insider!):

HRH The Agong has spoken. The King has sent Dollah (right) on a deep shit expedition. It surely will not be an easy one for Dollah especially after he was given the ultimatum to accept the appointment of the Terengganu Menteri Besar or face more shit on his face.

Dollah was asked to provide the detailed expenditure of the RM1.2B a year that Idris Jusoh received from the federal government since he became the MB of Terengganu.

Are we going to see the establishment of a Royal Commission if Dollah fails to present to the King the detailed expenditure?

Are we also going to know who is the real MB of Terengganu from 2004 until March 2008?

Patrick "Badawi" Lim Soo Kit's private helicopter.

Who is Patrick Badawi and what is his relationship with Kamaluddin Abdullah’s wife? What is the business relationship between Kamaluddin and Patrick Badawi?

The Man from Equine with The Man from Scomi.

Why did the RM50M Crystal Mosque actually cost ten times more upon completion? Why has RM350M been spent annually on the Monsoon Cup and how has it benefited the poor in Terengganu? With only four years to go for Terengganu to enjoy the gas and petroleum, why is Terengganu still listed amongst the poorest states in Malaysia and with such a huge default in federal loans, etc, etc, etc and etc…… the list continues.

Patrick "Badawi" Lim with former Terengannu MB Idris Jusoh.

Surely, this is really a deep shit fishing trip for Dollah Derhaka. How will Khairy Jamaluddin come handy this time?

Enjoying the high life in Terengganu.

The Royal Party Pooper, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, puts his royal foot down on another Scumno scam. We the Rakyat salute you back.

Azly Rahman: A Brilliant Young Academic

For the benefit of those who have yet to subscribe to Malaysiakini (where I found this lucid and thoughtful essay by a brilliant young academic named Azly Rahman) I'm reproducing part of his post here. If you're subscribed to Malaysiakini click on the essay heading to read the entire piece...

BRAVE NEW MALAYSIAN IDENTITY EMERGING?
Azly Rahman | Mar 24, 08 3:49pm

"Our government teaches the whole people by its example. If the government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy." - Louis D. Brandeis (American Supreme Court Justice, 1856-1941).

"I do not wish to remove from my present prison to a prison a little larger. I wish to break all prisons." - Ralph Waldo Emerson, American transcendentalist.

The second wave of Independence, achieved with the storming of the "Bastille that is Putrajaya" in March 2008, in a phenomenon called "implo-volution" in which the old regime was crushed by its own weight of contradiction and one whose ruins were charted some fifty years ago, present an interesting possibility. It is that of the ethnogenesis (emerging new culture) of a new Malaysian identity. Political will is complementing this philosophical vision. The Internet is aiding in speeding up the process.

The wave is forcing the various ethnic groups to think of defining itself as a " new nation" when power-sharing of a truly multicultural nature at the state level is becoming a reality. Not only the different ethnic groups are fairly represented in what I call the "yellow" states of "Perak and Selangor" but religious background of the state leaders are also playing a key role in the evolving nature of the leadership.

The yellow states are forging ahead with care – aware of the sensitivities of the different ethnic and religious groups, focusing on the pragmatics and ethics drawn from each cultural tradition. Thus, we saw Penang CM Lim Guan Eng refusing to use thousands of ringgit of state funds to move to a new office, we saw the Kedah chief minister and we saw the continuation of Kelantan chief minister's commitment to the principles of Islam in governing the state with prudence and tolerance.

What is displayed is Confucianist-Taoist ideas and Islamic brand of ethical leadership – two seemingly radical philosophies that actually complement each other. When it comes to statecraft, both are useful in forming as basis for a philosophy of governance that appeals to the Malays and the Chinese. These ideals are no different that the ones taught in Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and the cultural philosophy of the natives of Sabah and Sarawak and of the Orang Asli.

The "ethics of authenticity" as philosopher Charles Taylor would put it, is universal enough to be a guiding light of this new nation. Ethics by any name is a system of check and balances of the Evil and the Good within. It is the Middle Path of Inner Statecraft.

Istana Zakaria and pondok Nik Aziz

In speaking of the manifestations of the excesses of greed and the imbalance of evil within, two installations of polar opposites are worth quoting as semiotics of conspicuous consumption, in a country such as Malaysia.

Istana Zakaria in Kelang (photo courtesy of Sin Chew Jit Poh)

The old and dying regime, Barisan Nasional too consists of Chinese and Malays. But the evolution of racial-politics necessitated the development of a style of leadership that requires extra-ethical means to be employed in order for power to be sustained via the control of wealth and resources. Not only these are controlled but they are displayed conspicuously and of late, with arrogance. This brought about the shocking defeat of the 50-year-old seemingly indestructible machine. The excess of this image of conspicuous consumption is in the Istana Zakaria.

The alter image to Istana Zakaria would probably be the house that Tuan Guru Nik Aziz inhabits (pictured left). But why do we have these contradictions? How have we come to this historical juncture in which the moral compass of the national leaders are misplaced or even lost and what we are seeing are the consequence of the capitalist system that is rearing its ugly immoral head. We have created monsters out of the freedom we give human beings to profit from the consumerist capitalist system we created out of the fear of socialism and Communism.

Billionaires and multi-millionaires in this nation are creations of a system. They are the products of the evolution of individuals that are installed by the institutions derived from the ideology of uncontrollable free enterprise constantly wanting to be freer and freer. Over a long period of time, the system creates a huge gap between the haves and the have-nots. It creates antagonism – of class and the hypermodern caste system. This is the Reaganomics of poverty - a mass deception of the "magic of the marketplace".

As a nation, what do we want to be known as? How do we re-engineer another evolution? How do we maintain a sense of personal freedom in the process of crafting a synthesis of "national identity and freedom?" Will the Internet be the great deconstructor of such an identity, once we forget it?

WE CAN ALL BE HEROES!

"Mati ayam, mati tungaunya (if the fowl dies, its ticks perish too)" - an old Malay saying.

As far as I’m concerned, Umno-BN is deceased. Finito. R.I.P. Kaput. What happened on March 8th was a gigantic Samurai sword that moved so swiftly the 10-headed hydra of Might-Is-Right that has terrorized us for the last 25 years lost all its heads. The BN survivors of the March 8th debacle are all operating in Safe Mode now, their operating systems having crashed big-time. Perhaps the Umno-BN hard drive can still be booted up a few more times and some useful data saved - but the motherboard itself is on the verge of terminal malfunction. So let's not speak ill of the dead.

Anyone who hasn’t been brainwashed by establishment pundits with vested interests can see that Anwar Ibrahim has got what it takes to steer this floundering ship back on course. And what it takes is intelligence, courage, stamina, adaptability, good humor, experience, and most importantly, ethical sense. His resilience has been proven over the last ten years by his capacity to transmute tragedy into triumph, transforming himself from victim to victor - all the while maintaining his dignity, clarity, and focus.

Whatever his early political agenda, the Anwar Ibrahim of 2008 has been forged in the furnace of personal pain and endurance. In 1998 he could have taken the money and run - become an academic or corporate CEO. But he didn’t. He stood up to Mahathir (right) and fought like a man. That’s how he gained my respect and admiration and trust. There are very few in our midst today that I can describe as “heroic.”

Is Chandra Muzaffar a hero? He might have been once, back in the early 1980s when he left academia to battle the monstrous menace of Mahathir. But after his ISA experience in 1987, Chandra’s spirit buckled. He left Aliran to establish JUST and for a few years he continued to say the right things. But he had lost his fire, his fighting spirit. He had gone the way of Lee Lam Thye.

Is Raja Petra Kamarudin (left) a hero? Most certainly. He stood by Anwar Ibrahim in the early days of his rebellion against monumental odds and was arrested under the ISA for his efforts. He was a tireless webmaster for the official Reformasi website and that subsequently led to his launching Malaysia Today - a "no holds barred" local news portal that has played a crucial role in exposing the dark side of Umno-BN and gained an immense readership. Indeed, RPK grew to be such a thorn in BN's backside a police report was filed against him by an Umno hatchetman and he was interrogated for eight hours. He threw his energy into the Opposition campaign as a featured speaker at many ceramahs (political rallies). Although a bona fide prince, RPK has always been accessible, down-to-earth and his finger is firmly on the pulse of the people. A large part of the credit for what happened on March 8th must go to RPK.

[Since this essay was written, much has transpired that warrants the inclusion of a footnote: RPK was arrested under ISA in September 2008 and sent to Kamunting; in November a courageous high court judge ordered his unconditional release, and RPK subsequently went into self-imposed exile; recently, RPK turned petulant and began attacking Anwar Ibrahim, although it appears to be more a personal than political feud. This has dimmed RPK's heroic lustre to a serious extent, even if he remains a positive force for change.]

Is Tian Chua a hero? I would say YES! But his career as a politician is only just beginning and he has a lot of learning to do, especially in terms of his approach. Even so, his fearlessness in the face of police violence has inspired many to speak up or march for justice. There are many other heroes I can think of: Lim Guan Eng, the new Chief Minister of Penang, for example, jailed by Mahathir for speaking up on behalf of a schoolgirl gang-banged by the former Chief Minister of Melaka; Tony Pua, who sold his successful IT business to launch his political career as an outspoken blogger and DAP candidate; Sivarasa Rasiah, who has spent the last 20 years defending human rights... it so happens they are all in the Barisan Rakyat.

And then there's Steven Gan, managing editor of Malaysiakini, who stuck to his guns as a political journalist and quit The Sun when he rubbed the establishment up the wrong way. In 1999, at the height of Reformasi fervor, Steven teamed up with Premesh Chandran to launch Malaysia's first news portal. Over the years Malaysiakini has survived several police raids and the confiscation of its computers. For invaluable services rendered to truth-loving Malaysians, this news portal deserves a standing ovation - and a thousand-fold increase in subscribers!

But to my mind nobody can match what Anwar Ibrahim has accomplished: he has led us through the Chapel Perilous of racial politics and now, for the first time since Merdeka, we can look around and appreciate the beauty of our own diversity and say, “Vive la difference!” On March 9th I was blissed out by a tangible feeling that we are no longer stuck in the rut of ethnocentric tempurungism, that we have finally outgrown all that “Bangsa-Ugama-Tanahair” hot air. I went to town and felt the genuine goodwill and jubilation that shone from every face I saw - Malay, Chinese, Indian, Orang Asli, Dan-lain-lain!

What has been missing all these decades is the possibility that we can love one another as humans, regardless of skin color or creed - that’s because cold-blooded ambition and ruthless greed have no use for empathy and warm feelings, nor does it encourage compassion, kindness, and spontaneous joy. No, it feeds and fattens itself vampire-like on fear - other people’s fear. And now, on that bright Sunday morning after GE12, the fear had dissipated like a bad smell in the winds of change. PKR flags fluttered proudly against a glorious blue Selangor sky, proclaiming that the people's eyes were open at long last.

In the climate of fear Mahathir created during his 22-year reign, anybody who dared speak the truth became a hero - or martyr. Anwar Ibrahim, more than any other political icon in the country, succeeded in transcending his own childhood prejudices to embody the universal values that will unite rather than divide us as a nation. That is indeed the mark of a hero. Let us honor this hero (who nearly became a martyr) by giving him what he fully deserves - the chance to serve as prime minister (at least till he tires of it or we tire of him). At the same time, let us all aspire to become heroes too, so that we will no longer be scared children in need of a grown-up to lead us across the street. Let us each become, in time, self-governing individuals whose relationship to our political leaders is akin to an orchestra’s respect for the conductor, knowing full well that his job is to create a symphony from the potential cacophony of so many different instruments.
