Namewee: Malaysia's Own Eminem

Namewee, if it were up to me, I would inaugurate a new kind of award to acknowledge your creative brilliance and warrior spirit.

When genuine talent, intelligence and initiative are discovered among our youngsters, we ought to heartily applaud and reward these cultural innovators.

Instead, we make utter fools of ourselves by getting uptight and angry, thereby missing the significance of witnessing a new star being born out of controversy.

The music is superfunky, Namewee. Superslick editing and powerful graphics too. Congratulations!

  2. Eminem?? Perhaps, in the sense that they both make distasteful remarks in their songs!! This is not talent, its utter ignorance. And yeah at the first sign of trouble he bails! Not too warrior like afterall!

  7. Well, first of all, I must say an even bigger coward is giving comments about namewee being a coward here. I mean, someone who doesn't even dare to leave his name when posting a comment and hides himself under the name "anonymous", what more need I say. See there's a difference between playing it smart and being a coward. A warrior would know and understand that there is no point in fighting a battle that u will surely lose. It wouldn't yield any benefits, and would take too much sacrifices. Instead, a warrior would await for the right opportunity to strike back and ensure that glorious victory is on his side. Thats a warrior! Those people who just stand their grounds at all time, without considering the consequences and being completely inflexible...a lot of people misjudge these people as warriors but in fact I would honestly say they are nothing more that stupid idiots. Just look at how many useless and wasted sacrifices have been made by these type of people...and for what? Life and freedom is precious and a real warrior would know how to cherish that and not just simply throw it all away just to defend some idealistic truth of theirs. Perhaps for those anonymous people, I would recommend you all to read sun tzu's art of war to understand better the meaning of a warrior. The word "warrior" itself is used to describe "One who is engaged in or experienced in war" and someone who is experienced in war would know exactly when they need to attack and when to retreat.

  8. As local-born rappers go, Namewee has carved a distinctive niche for himself with his sassy in-your-face anti-authoritarian attitude. This country has suffered too much of the opposite quality of bowing and scraping to whoever holds the pursestrings. The MCA Chinese in particular have for too long put aside their dignity and pride in favor of lucrative contracts - they call it being pragmatic. Well, to hell with pragmatism, says Namewee. Grow some balls! From the purely musical and technical viewpoints, this 24-year-old has achieved a level of technical wizardry with audio mixing and video editing that is certainly laudable. Namewee comes across as unnecessarily rude to some folks - but the bona fide street-savvy rapper must shoot from the hip or he's just another RTM announcer. Okay, he sometimes make a few minor gaffes (like when the subtitles for 'Mamula Moon' read "Say form again to me" instead of "Sail home again to me" or perhaps "Safe home again to me" (the line is a bit hard to decipher, probably because the singer's dentures came loose :-) - but apart from that it's a very assertive and self-confident piece of work that exhorts Malaysian Chinese to quit playing eunuchs and reclaim their semangat. More power to Namewee!

  11. As far as rap music go, I've never heard anything as good as his. And his rapping? Best in Malaysia and Singapore, no doubt. He can put wannabe rappers like Kanye West out of business.

And cowardice? He's still giving it to the government. This time, in their own backyard. Ok what? We should be relieved that an artist has not lost his innocence, given the high probability of being jaded before your time here in Shithole.
