Graft busters beat me up, says new witness
SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — He was handcuffed and taken into a dark room where he saw a tall man with spectacles wrapping an iron ceiling rod in newspapers.
He was told to strip. Several men assaulted him. He was hit with the metal rod, punched, kicked, slapped and caned on his genitals and the soles of his feet until he passed out from the pain.
Sivanesan Tanggavelu, 22, who stepped into the witness box at today’s inquest into the death of political secretary Teoh Beng Hock gave a highly-graphic account of his experience at the hands of the Selangor graft busters.
The assistant manager of a Kuantan-based company recounted how he was met at home on Sept 4 last year by three men who said they were anti-graft officers and requested his help in an investigation.
He followed them to their office on the 14th-floor of Plaza Masalam here and tried to get him to sign a document admitting guilt.
When he refused, one of them, whom he called “Mohan,” told him in Tamil: “If you don’t tell the truth, this place will be hell.”
The 22-year-old was introduced today as a new witness into the inquest of Teoh Beng Hock who fell to his death on July 16 after being interrogated overnight by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office on the 14th-floor of Plaza Masalam here.
Lawyer for the MACC, Datuk Abdul Razak Musa had objected strongly this morning to admitting Sivanesan’s testimony as well as police report on the assault.
Abdul Razak who had objected to the testimony yesterday when it was to be put to the MACC’s own man, Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus, for questioning, maintained his stand.
He said Sivanesan’s report “is not relevant” to Teoh’s inquest because it was too long ago, before the anti-graft agency became the MACC.

Gangsters without a cause.
ReplyDeleteIt was barely a year ago, how could they say it was irrelevant and happened too long ago?
ReplyDeleteThe fact that the very same man , MACC's Ashraf, assaulted the victims is relevant to the case!
Don't let justice being thrown out of the window just because of some technicality complex in the ruling.
Justice must prevail!
thats what happens when we were ruled by a tyrant for 22 years ,then a sleeping wats happening PM for another 6 to 7 years and then now ... omg ! Horror of the mother of all horrors !
ReplyDeletea crime mnister in charge of petronas money !!Are you surprised ladies and gentlemen ?
Remember the ketuk ketampi case? Everybody were aghast at the police when they though the police were torturing the chinese national. As it turned out, she was a Malay woman in police custody! There was not a single apology from those who accused the police of torture! So the lesson is: Kalau Malay tak apa, tapi orang lain tak boleh.

ReplyDeleteTeoh's tragic outcome is just one of the slip ups in the initiatives to cultivate 'frogs' as the BN is convinced that it cannot win elections anymore in Peninsular Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteThis was a reply given in the Malaysian Parliament, in response to a question by DAP MP Loke Siew Fook:
That works out to around RM7,702,600 per draw in the government's kitty.
Fast forward to 2009. Do you all know how many special draws have been allowed till this date?

Thats a total of 34 special draws todate.
At the conservative estimate of RM7.7 million taxes per draw based on the reply in the parliament, the Federal government, (with a 'premier' partner UMNO, which the PM claimed is an Islamic party) would have collected RM 261.8million 'halal' money.
One wonders how much of 'halal' money went actually for "pelbagai program/projek pembangunan yang berbentuk sukan, kebajikan, pendidikan, kesihatan dan kemasyarakatan"?
Or did any of this amount go to nurturing frogs?
Look at the trend of the draw dates.
See any concentration of dates, before the Perak state government was hijacked?
And is there any concentration of dates, co-inciding with the time where the Selangor state government ex-co members and their assistants were being 'invited' to co-operate with Federal government agencies' investigations? And the 'special' blog on TBH that surfaced around that time?
When all that failed, then the 'religious' angle came into the picture with
a. beer confiscation from 7-Eleven (which ironically is from the same business group that Sports Toto also belongs)
b. self-proclaimed edits about state suthorities being given powers to go after Muslims 'dealing' with alcoholic beverages
c. Cow-Head march
d. Disruption in the dialogue session called by the Selangor State government
Too many co-incidences. Very difficult to ignore.
Malayians need to remember these carefully when they want to cast their votes and select the people that they want as their MPs and ADUNs
