ANWAR AS OPPOSITION LEADER

From Malaysiakini, 27 Aug 08, 10:20AM

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia announced this morning that Anwar Ibrahim, the new member of parliament for Permatang Pauh, will be sworn in tomorrow.

Anwar makes his return to the House in grand style after an absence of ten years by winning the Permatang Pauh by-election yesterday with a majority of 15,671.

The de facto PKR leader is also expected to be appointed parliamentary opposition leader for the 82 Pakatan Rakyat MPs.

In April 2008 online opinion surveys indicated that approximately 66% of voters welcomed the idea of Anwar Ibrahim as the sixth prime minister of Malaysia.

There were many - Malays and non-Malays - who felt uneasy about Anwar. A few prominent bloggers habitually attacked Anwar and took every opportunity to erode voter confidence in the man. Their audience, obviously, were a large number of fence-sitters - people who voted against BN, but not necessarily for PKR in the March 8th elections.

On June 28th Saiful Bukhari Azlan lodged his infamous sodomy report at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital police pondok, marking the launch of "Sodomy II" - another Umno conspiracy to politically "ass-as-sin-ate" Anwar.

By 16 August 2008 - Nomination Day at Permatang Pauh - online surveys indicated that the number of voters in favor of Anwar Ibrahim's ascension to the Malaysian premiership had reached the region of 96%.

Sodomy obviously sells. But the only ones who bought it were the ones already bought off by Embarisan Nazional, the erstwhile ruling coalition.

ANWAR'S THE ONE AND HE HAS RETURNED! NO LOOKING BACK NOW!

  2. they'll keep him from attending parliament with the sodo mee case and mutiple suits and mareva injuctions like an unnamed place across the causeway.

they are so afraid of his shadow that they walk around with a cross on chain and garlic in their pockets.

from now on the battle will get more intense and heated up.

but, he does not walk alone!!

  4. Ian - not going to probe if you prefer to remain mysterious :-)

FadeO & Donplaypuks - Anwar certainly seems to have won the hearts and minds of a growing number of Malaysians, particularly since Sodomy II revealed the utter moral bankruptcy of Umno/BN. No, Anwar doesn't walk alone - he must have at least 25 million of us who have decided to place our trust in him as a national leader.

Anonymous - your request for a shadow cabinet is indeed a challenge, but such an exercise requires that I know the workings of government a great deal more intimately than I do. If it were up to me, I'd scrap quite a few ministries - waste of money and energy! At this point, I have seen sufficient evidence of great intelligence amongst the Pakatan Rakyat leadership - PKR's Sallehuddin, for example, is a brilliant political strategist and Azmin Ali an extremely competent, solid and likeable chap. Husam Musa from PAS also strikes me as a fine mind - and of course there are many veteran and novice leaders in DAP who can be relied upon to contribute to the overhauling of the federal government machinery.
In other words, I'm quite sure Pakatan Rakyat will come up with a workable shadow cabinet.

  5. Hello Antares!

It is the Seventh Month of the Lunar Calendar and the Gates of Hell are open, unleashing a torrent of restless spirits into the material realm. Hence, my re-appearance, haha.

Of course, like any proper ghost, I've never really gone away, just lurked in the background. Hey, even ghosts need to earn a living.

It is unbelievably difficult to keep a blog maintained; I tip my hat to all the bloggers who can and do keep theirs regularly updated. But we do what we can.

Re: Najib, we have not forgotten the sins of the father, and we shall not forget the sins of the son. Karma flows dark in the veins of Najib Tun Razak. Najib must never be allowed to become Prime Minister. Never.

Now, we march on the capital. Ghosts and all.
