Dean Johns on Sodomy, Godomy and Bodohmy in Malaysia (10th anniversary repost)

Cloned from Malaysiakini for the benefit of those too poor or too cheap to subscribe, this is another hard-hitting, lethally spot-on & punishingly funny broadside from political columnist Dean Johns, published 31 October 2014.

Sodomy, godomy and bodohmy

Oh me, oh my. As you can plainly see from the title of this, my 384th piece on the perfidy of the BN regime, I’m finding it increasingly tough to find or even fabricate appropriate words to decry and deride the activities of this cabal of despicable crooks.

Because just as they seem to have gone as low as it’s possible to go, they sink to depths that are even more difficult than ever to credit or describe. Stopping at absolutely nothing in their project to pervert every possible aspect of Malaysian life, from truth and justice to religion, reason and human intelligence itself, for the sole purpose of perpetuating their monopoly on power and plunder.

As is most painfully evident right this minute in the latest episode of their persecution of Anwar Ibrahim on endless, plainly trumped-up charges of sodomy. Never mind that you’d have to be totally sodumbnised to believe that the whole thing is not yet another criminal conspiracy by this incurably crooked regime.

All the tainted serological evidence and perjured testimony aside, the fact alleged ‘victim’ Saiful Bukhari Azlan not only allegedly had a suspicious tryst with the inspector-general of police in a hotel, but also then-deputy prime minister Najib Abdul Razak at his residence, just days before he reported the so-called ‘crime’, is clear evidence of conspiratorial collusion.

Especially in light of Najib’s initial denial that he had met Saiful, and later his lame admission that indeed he had met him, but that the meeting had been for the purpose of discussing the possibility of a “scholarship”.

“Scholarship” in this case being a euphemism for bribe, no doubt, as years later it seems that Saiful is living comfortably if not outright luxuriously despite having long had no apparent employment or other legitimate means of support.

And while we’re on the subject of fake scholarships, it appears that the regime has showered similar if somewhat less largesse on a group of craven creatures prepared to wear T-shirts and wave signs, all suspiciously professionally printed, no doubt at public expense, proclaiming their desire for justice, not for Anwar, but for Saiful.

Meanwhile, BN’s ever-compliant ‘religious’ authorities keep colluding in the regime’s sodomisation of the Malaysian people by every possible means from murder and massive theft and bodohmisation of the populace by lying ‘news’ media and a dismally dumbed-down ‘education’ system with a programme of godomisation that gets more ridiculously outrageous by the day.

With the self-styled holier-than-thou posing as ‘protectors’ and ‘defenders’ of Islam at every possible opportunity, as in perennial attempts to refuse Christians the right to use the generic Arab term for God, ‘Allah’, and threatening to burn Bibles that offend the ‘sensitivities’ of the ‘faithful’.

And these godomists also go so far as to try and ban the celebration of such allegedly ‘un-Islamic’ celebrations as Oktoberfest, St Valentine’s Day and, as most topical today as I write this column, Halloween.

Every day memorialises a deity

Little aware, apparently, that, in the English language at least, every day memorialises a pre-Islamic, pre-Christian, indeed outright pagan deity: Sunday the ancient sun god; Monday the goddess of the moon; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the old Scandinavian gods Tiw, Odin, Thor and goddess of love, Fria; and Saturday recalls Saturn, the Roman god of agriculture.

In other words, in English and doubtless many other ‘Western’ tongues, every day of the week is arguably as potentially sodomising of the alleged sensibilities and sensitivities of BN’s tame godomists as the regime’s ‘unsolved’ murders, massive thefts and sundry other sodomies on Malaysian society are to the majority of us.

Yet BN spokespersons still have the unmitigated gall to claim that they are on the side of justice, fair play and social harmony, as in Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s
recent attempt to rebut Anwar Ibrahim’s claim that his sodomy appeal is a “litmus test for the government" by claiming that it is “Anwar and not Putrajaya that is on trial”.

“The government did not force Anwar to do what he is accused of on Saiful,” Khairy declared, thus begging the burning question as to whether the government made the whole thing up, “so why make it a trial about the government’s credibility?”

As one of the world’s least evidently successful and thus also least credible ministers of sports, surely it’s time for Khairy to realise that the majority of us are not so godomised or bodohmised as to believe a word that he or anyone else in the rotten BN regime says about anything.

And that we’re also very well aware that if the government is not on trial, it surely should and someday will be. For a catalogue of crimes so enormous that it would take a column far longer than this to list them all.

From the sodomy of Malaysian society by Abdul Razak Hussein, second prime minister and father of the current incumbent, by his alleged fomenting of the May 13 1969 riots, through the shafting of the judiciary in the 1980s by Dr Mahathir Mohamad through all the countless extra-judicial killings and obscene financial killings by regime members and their cronies in all the years since, the list of indictable offences is endless.

Continuing unabated

Literally so, as they’re still continuing unabated through massive un-repaid ‘loans’ as in the notorious National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) fiasco, embezzlements as in the RM12-billion Port Klang Free Zone scandal, the vastly-overpriced new ‘low-cost’ KLIA2 airport and terminal, and currently both KL’s plunder-riddled MRT project and the so-called ‘sovereign wealth fund’ 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), and “losses” like that of MAS flight MH370.

Not to mention outright thefts like that of much of the timber from Sarawak by regime crony Abdul (‘The Termite’) Taib Mahmud, whose lawyers are currently
threatening legal action against the publishers and distributors of the book Money Logging: On the Trail of the Asian Timber Mafia.

And as if to add insult to Taib’s sodomy of his state’s natural resources and the laws of the land, his shysters are predicting “substantial” damages due not only to the “extreme seriousness of the allegations,” but also “given the wealth of our client”.

This supremely arrogant attitude is not particular to Taib Mahmud, but characteristic of Malaysia’s entire ruling regime. And so, whatever the verdict this gang of crooks engineers for Anwar this time around, it will keep getting away with its sodomies on the country until enough honest citizens finally decide to stop taking it lying down, and revolt against BN-style godomy and bodohmy for once and for all.

TURN YOURSELVES IN NOW, PEOPLE! (reprise)

If you've ever indulged in anal or oral sex, know that you have committed a grave offence under Malaysian laws, and it's punishable by up to 20 years in prison and possibly a few strokes of the rotan. I suggest you turn yourself in immediately. Has your husband or boyfriend performed cunnilingus on you? Report him at once to the Royal Malaysian Police!

Imagine what would happen if 13,000,000 law-abiding Malaysians were to queue up in front of every Balai Polis throughout the country, waiting to lodge a report against themselves or their sex partners for committing the heinous crime of butt-fucking, cock-sucking and/or cunt-licking... think the home minister can handle such a situation?

Now ask yourself why only 1 Malaysian has ever been charged with sodomy? Is this not a blatant case of selective prosecution?

Come on, Jibby... drop the case and pack your bags. It's hopeless, you will never win this battle. Even if you do get a few punches in before you go down, you will lose the war for sure.

We know you married a real battleship - a diesel-powered submarine, some snigger - but when she springs a leak.... uh-oh... it's gonna be blub-blub-blub-blub-blub for both of you all the way down.

Hang in there, Jibby! Won't be long now....

It's a very long way to the bottom when you're at the very top....
Taib: "I hear she loves blow jobs!"
As I said: "Hang in there, Jibby!"
Do you really think you can get away with murder, Mr Pink Lips?

A sordid case of déjà vu: Thanks, Jibby, for making Anwar look better than ever!

Courtesy of Malaysiakini

By doggedly pursuing the ludicrous sodomy charge against Anwar Ibrahim, Najib Razak and his co-conspirators in Umno have given the Opposition Leader's public image a massive boost and made him look like the Prime Minister we all deserve after 45 years of parasitic and piratic misrule.

Indeed, Sodomy II has given Anwar unprecedented international media attention and the moral support of a huge upswelling of sympathy from Malaysians of all walks of life, even those normally apathetic about local politics. Anwar has never looked better - at least Malaysian taxpayers didn't have to fork out hundreds of millions in professional fees to a Jewish PR company named APCO Worldwide - while Najib has never looked worse.

Malaysia itself is in the dock ~ Wall Street Journal

2 FEB 2010 — More than a decade after he was beaten, tried and jailed, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim will once again face a Kuala Lumpur court today on charges of sodomy. The accusations are highly dubious and raise a serious question: Is this moderate Muslim democracy becoming a nation with no real rule of law?

The circumstances surrounding Anwar’s prosecution are suspiciously familiar to most Malaysians. In 1998, he was arrested as he was mounting serious arguments against the increasingly erratic government of United Malays National Organisation chief Mahathir Mohamed. Anwar’s former aide Munawar Anees describes being tortured and forced to confess to sodomy, a criminal offense in Malaysia. Anwar was convicted of sodomy and abuse of power and served six years in jail before the sodomy ruling was overturned in 2004. He was allowed to run for political office again in 2008, which he did, in earnest.

Anwar was arrested again in July 2008, a day after participating in his first nationally televised debate in more than a decade—an event that showcased his political skills and highlighted the growing momentum behind his three-party opposition coalition. He was accused of sodomy with a 23-year-old former aide, Saiful Bukhari Azlan. Saiful was taken into protective police custody after he made his allegation and has since rarely been seen in public. The government denies any political motivation for the charges. Saiful himself has not been charged.

As in 1998, the evidence in this case is thin at best. The police made a show of arresting Anwar, put him in jail for a night, and forced him to undergo a humiliating medical “examination.” The government then passed a bill in parliament to give the police expanded powers to collect DNA in criminal cases. Anwar’s lawyers claim they have a hospital report that shows no sodomy occurred.

Also troubling is the public involvement of Prime Minister Najib Razak, who was deputy leader at the time of Mr Anwar’s 2008 arrest—and the man most politically threatened by Anwar’s popularity. Najib acknowledged that he was photographed with and spoke to Saiful (pictured right) after he was allegedly sodomised and before he went to the hospital for tests. Najib says he didn’t influence Saiful’s decision to press charges. Saiful couldn’t be reached for comment.

This story would sound familiar in a tin-pot dictatorship. But Malaysia isn’t one. Along with Indonesia, it forms the backbone of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Its citizens today have far more access to news and information through the Internet than they did 12 years ago. They also have the power to vote.

And that may be the mechanism that keeps Malaysia free and honest. Ordinary citizens—including the majority ethnic Malays—increasingly support Anwar’s secular platform of religious tolerance, economic liberty and modernisation. The opposition won five of 13 states in national elections in 2008, and it has since won seven of nine by-elections. Anwar was re-elected to parliament in a by-election the month after his arrest in 2008. There will likely be protests in front of the courthouse to show support for him.

The trial that begins today threatens domestic political unrest and undermines confidence, at home and around the world, in Malaysia’s rule of law. ~ Wall Street Journal

"Although things remain calm on the surface, civil society is traumatized by such a naked display of power and crude perversion of justice. The trust between the government and the people is broken and the government’s respect and legitimacy bleeds away. Deep undercurrents of discontent are created which must eventually manifest in some ways. Anwar’s fight to clear his name will be a defining moment for Malaysia. This is not about one man’s fight for justice but an indicator of the path the nation is taking." ~ Bruce Tan, Harakah

ALTANTUYA ASIDE... (reprise)

Names change... Syed Hamid Albar is now running a gigantic scam called SPAD... Musa Hassan stepped down in September 2012 and fearing a Pakatan Rakyat takeover, began making conciliatory noises, trying to hedge his bets, even threatening to expose "Altantuya's real murderer" in Bangkok... his successor Khalid Abu Bakar, turned out to be 10 times worse... the shituation remains the same, only it's costing us 100 times more because of inflation!

Malaysiakini | 31 March 2009

Meanwhile in a related development, the police chief issued a warning to all political parties not to incite, provoke or utter words that are deemed to be seditious.

Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan also said that they must avoid making unfounded and baseless allegations on their opponents or the party they represented.

"Police will be monitoring all political ceramah and will record them. We urge everyone including supporters not to provoke or taunt anyone during their campaigns," he said in a statement today.

Musa also added that the police would beef up security in all three by-election spots to prevent untoward incidents.

Even if Altantuya Shaariibuu never existed... and therefore never met Najib Abdul Razak or Abdul Razak Baginda... never demanded USD500,000 for keeping mum about backroom negotiations she was privy to over the purchase of three submarines for the Malaysian Navy in 2005... and therefore was never abducted on the evening of 19 October 2006 by police officers in front of eyewitnesses, toyed with like a trapped mouse, shot twice in the head and then blown to smithereens with C4 military-grade explosives... that still does not immunize the erstwhile defence minister from being investigated for corruption of the highest order.

Kickbacks, okay, commissions amounting to hundreds of millions of ringgit cannot be cavalierly swept under the Umno carpet.

What about the PSC Naval Dockyard fiasco involving billions in inexplicable losses? As defence minister at the time, Najib Razak should have been immediately sacked for gross mismanagement. This extraordinary debacle was never investigated and no heads were seen to roll. Amin Shah, the Umno crony responsible for the grotesque budget overruns, reportedly fled the country. He ought to be doing time for embezzlement or criminal breach of contract.

Instead, against the wishes of more than 90% of the electorate, Najib Razak is on the verge of being anointed by Umno as Malaysia's sixth prime minister. Correction: CRIME minister!

Where got meaning, I ask you?

As for Musa Hassan's outrageous warning...

HOW DARE YOU DICTATE TO THE RAKYAT, YOUR EMPLOYERS?

You, sir, are essentially the nation's Chief Security Guard. We, the rakyat, pay your salary to safeguard our property and our public spaces. We do not take instructions from our security guards, do you understand? Of late, your personnel have behaved so despicably you deserve not only to be IMMEDIATELY SACKED... but thoroughly investigated for all your alleged misdeeds since 1998. Musa Hassan, I hold you personally responsible for the absolute and utter degradation of the Malaysian police, whose reputation for criminal misbehavior has sunk far below that of the most vicious street gang.

You can make people fear you... but you can't make them respect or trust you. I know you see yourself as a tough guy, tougher than even Rahim Noor. However, less than a year ago you underwent heart bypass surgery. Have you been listening to your heart? I guess not! Instead, you choose to obey your criminal masters in Umno. You have joined forces with the crime minister - the biggest desperado in the country - and you are waging war against the rakyat. Do you HONESTLY believe you are serving your goddam bangsa dan agama? Musa Hassan, I urge you to repent and voluntarily step down. I'm sure the rakyat will find it in their hearts to forgive you and let you spend the rest of your days in peace, making amends.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics began to crumble and disintegrate into dozens of semi-autonomous countries. Russia came under the control of powerful Mafia-style crime syndicates and renegade generals. It's a miracle the country still exists. And look at the tragedy that befell Zimbabwe when that hideous monster Robert Mugabe rose to power... yes, I'm talking about Mahathir's bosom buddy, birds of a feather!

We don't want this to happen to our beloved Malaysia. But it appears that the crime syndicates, masquerading as Captains of Industry and the corporate elite, are determined to suffocate our newborn democracy in its crib - so that they can continue with impunity their 50-year rape and pillage of the nation's wealth. Not only are you liars, hypocrites, thieves and murderers... you are about to commit infanticide!

I regard it as my moral duty to thwart your evil designs. Anyone else care to join me?

Where on earth is Saiful Bukhari Azlan (Malaysia's infamous anus)?

Actually, I don't have a clue.
And, frankly, I don't give a fuck.

This photo of Saiful Bukhari Azlan on pilgrimage to the Ka'aba is undated.
Let's hope the same applies to Saiful.
What a twisted little Saicopath!

901: a significant turning point in Malaysian history....

Anwar pledges to topple BN after acquittal
January 09, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today that “justice has been served” after his acquittal in a politically-charged sodomy trial and pledged to topple the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next elections.

“Thank God, justice has been served. I feel vindicated but we still have a struggle. We have to now focus on the general election,” he told reporters after the High Court here acquitted and discharged him of a charged of sodomising his former male aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.

Anwar the Unstoppable!

Anwar Ibrahim personifies the people's intensifying desire to see an end to criminal misrule under the incurable Dr M, the ruthless Daim Zainuddin, and their vile Umno Baru legacy of arrogant, cynical, corrupt cronyism and despotism.

Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia's 7th prime minister, is destined to usher in a new era of democracy in Malaysia, with fresh faces, new blood and renewed dedication. More power to Pakatan Rakyat!

“I always say I'm 64 but I feel 46. I’m quite macho.” ~ Anwar

This is for the benefit of those who can't access Malaysiakini, a subscription news portal...

How does one prepare for 20 years behind bars? If you are PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, you would “go through the minutest details” over what to expect, and brace for the worst. Speaking to Malaysiakini about tomorrow’s verdict for his sodomy trial, Anwar said he is “psychologically prepared” to return to jail. “People say I’m crazy. I thought of it. I know. I know what to expect in the minutest detail. Nobody wants to go through it, frankly,” he said in an interview on Thursday. “People say you want to be a martyr, a hero. Absolute nonsense. When one comes to this age, and going through that... people think they know (how it is).” Having spent six years at the Sungai Buloh prison previously, Anwar believes staunchly that prison guards and police officers are “exceedingly kind” and that he will be fine under their care.

His family, however, does not share his views. In a “session” to discuss the possibly outcomes of the trial, he said his children and sons-in-law expressed concern that there would be assault and mistreatment, as in 1998. Dismissing this, the father of six said his only concern is whether his bad back, a result of a police assault then, could withstand the jail cell conditions. “I always say I am 64 but I feel 46... I’m quite macho,” he said with a laugh.

In the following excerpt of Malaysiakini's interview, Anwar also speaks of how his likely incarceration could affect his political career and its effect on the opposition's battle for Malay votes. Content has been edited for language, brevity and clarity.

Malaysiakini: Looking at Monday, what is your expectation? Are you hopeful?

Anwar Ibrahim: I am hopeful, because unlike before they did not adduce evidence... This case they realised and used forensic evidence. They thought they were smart and we demolished (the evidence). So, how can they ignore facts from law? I therefore feel there is no option but to acquit me. (But) knowing the system and the realities... I wouldn’t be surprised if the judge convicts me. So there would be two options. I go to jail straight, or they grant me bail pending appeal. It is also difficult for them to deny bail, as they just had in the (former Selangor MB Mohd) Khir Toyo case, and all cases for that matter. But as you know, Anwar is always the exception.

It happened to you in the first sodomy trial.

Yes, in the first case. But I think the important thing is about whether I am mentally prepared and the family is prepared. I had a session with the family. We went through all the options and allowed my children and sons-in-law to speak up and express their concerns. Alhamdulillah, they’re prepared. Even for (wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) it is difficult. She went through that, she knows, with my back condition and my age - I always say I feel 46 but I’m 64. (laughs) - it’s not easy.

Their main concern is security, my personal safety. I said, ‘No,’ but they said, ‘Yeah, that’s what we said in 1998 and it happened’. (The authorities) said it will never happen (again), but how I was treated in 2008 was a repetition. It was short of being assaulted, but the rest were completely inhumane. The consideration for my back condition, my age, nothing. I’m not talking about the stripping. But I’m talking about putting me on the cement. And you know there was excruciating pain following that. I had to get a jab after that... But I think I will manage.

Are you psychologically prepared for it?

Yeah, fortunately. People say I’m quite crazy. I thought of it. I know I know what to expect in the minutest detail. Nobody wants to go through it, frankly. People say you want to be a martyr, a hero. Absolute nonsense, when one comes to this age, and going through that. People assume they know (how it is). That's why (self-exiled blogger) Raja Petra (Kamarudin) did not want to go to jail, I understand and I sympathise with him on that part although I don’t necessarily agree to the extent that (he) went to sell (his) soul. People can say lots of things, but after going through it before and taking the risk. Okay, they say they won’t do it (assault you). But if it’s done, it’s done.

Do you think you will survive? Your health is presumably not as good as before?

Just the back. The rest is okay. Compared to 1998, the back is the worst place. The only problem is excruciating pain and they don’t give me enough (assistance) you know... They say we have to ask the doctor, the doctor says must ask the consultant, then consultant must ask the minister... and if they send the same (Dr S) Jeyaindran, I will have a hell of a lot of trouble. That was the only doctor who (then PM Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad) allowed and you can see his performance in court. Once I got this baseline pneumonia, and normally I’m the type who would refuse to go to hospital. I’m not the type to demand to be taken to hospital and all that. That night I couldn’t breathe. So they called the hospital and were referred to (Jeyaindran).

He said, “Okay, okay give him this medication, okay, okay.” Then I was getting angry. I said, “I cannot breathe. You come and see me”, and he said, “Okay, I’ll come tomorrow morning” so I had to wait until tomorrow morning. That’s the only thing... Will I manage? Yes. Can I? Yes. Will I get baseline pneumonia? No, I don’t think so.

I'm quite macho (laughs). The prison officers, even the police officers, are not cruel. The problem is instructions. In the Bukit Aman lock-up, the police officers were exceedingly kind. So I have difficulty hearing ceramah knocking the police (bantai polis). Similarly in prison, in my six years there, probably only one of them was the Umno-Perkasa type. Sometimes they cannot (do much), but they’re kind. If I’m not feeling well, at least they give a Panadol, they cannot consult an expert but they will still do it or give me medication to rub on the back.

Do you think you’ll come back to a strong Pakatan?

Of course. This is a major issue, what happens to the manifesto, interim leadership, who will be coordinating, and so on. But don’t forget, we have been dealing with this thing for the past three years. The moment I was charged, the thinking was sure that I will be implicated. No matter what.

So Pakatan will emerge stronger?

Yes, in fact someone jokingly said it’s better (if I am convicted). Azizah didn’t like it. It's an issue which is quite emotive for the Malays. Umno has given up on the Chinese. I personally think that there is no credible voice for the Chinese (in BN). So the battleground is clearly in the Malay (community). They consider Anwar in jail. There are still many among the Malays who are still reviewing it. The support will probably not be the same as in 1999, but even among the Umno guys, they say, ‘Why the need to put him in jail?’

Unlike the previous case, this case has been debated, discussed, medical records, pamphlets spread all around the country. (Now) they bring these frogs and Perkasa types, they did not use this in their campaign in ’99. People resent that.

So your going to jail will gain more sympathy from the Malays, compared with the Chinese and Indians?

No, we can safely say a large majority of the Chinese are with Pakatan Rakyat, so the battleground is with the Malays. The Chinese totally reject this whole issue, outright condemnation of the charge. The general view of Pakatan leaders is that putting me in jail would strengthen our case, would bring more support to us. I think Umno does concede this. I met quite a number (of them).

So they may go for the second option? Let you out?

Yeah, grant bail.

You said the Malays are listening to both sides. Would your conviction convince them that Umno is right?

You see in 1998, 1999, Malays generally accepted the Judiciary as independent. And now, after years of talking of Teoh Beng Hock, PKFZ, and all these cases... people know. I don’t think we should underestimate the masses. Except maybe the rural heartlands, where the people have no access to information, where there are not that many ceramah. I mean even Umno division chiefs they say: “Ya lah, but not like this. Kita tak setuju sebab you baik dengan DAP.” ("Yes, but not like this. We disagree with you because you’re good friends with DAP.")

That is common. Even in Penang, some of my old Umno guys say this. I counter them: “Tanah you yang mana Guan Eng ambil?” They say,“Tak ada lah tapi...” I ask: “You nak Ketua Menteri Melayu? Dulu pun tidak.” (“Which land of yours did Guan Eng take?” They say: “Oh no, but...”. I ask: “So you want a Malay Chief Minister? There wasn’t one before either.”) We can argue. But that’s the only point (of contention for the Malays).

But you have to admit, they’re flinging lots of mud on you, some of it might stick. Not just this case, the sex video, etc. How can you reverse that effect?

Yeah, today pluralism again, Utusan Malaysia. One argument is that if there are 100 charges against Anwar, five may be true. But there are also a group that says it is not possible for a man to be charged with 100 things, it’s an overkill. Some people read (the newspapers) and are sold on this idea of pro-Christian, starting with the Allah issue. Now pluralism. But even the rural heartlands, the religious scholars are with us. That is their difficulty. They have Utusan, TV3 daily, some say yeah, but you go to the ground, if they believe it I don’t think they would come. If they portray you with sodomy, prostitution, Jewish agent, CIA, World Bank, they won’t come.

Are you convinced that most Malaysians, or most Malays, believe that the charges preferred against you are fabricated?

In ’99 they were quite convinced, majority of Malays supported (me). In 2008, we were still good. Since then, in our states we have worked harder. I’m quite confident that in Penang, Selangor, Kedah, the penetration of rural areas is very high.

There was once lots of people waiting for you in front of court throughout the first sodomy trial but not so this time around. Do you think support has waned?

Then I was in jail, you see. There is a difference. For this one, I finish with court at 4pm and by 6pm I’m already in Ipoh. So I appear, and people say, it’s okay, he appears. I was in Malacca, and someone said: “I’ll see you in court tomorrow”. The next day there he was. I was in Sungai Petani last week and people tell me they’re coming (for the verdict). People from Terengganu and Kelantan will come. But with the incessant attack since then, probably there has been a slight dip (in support).

If the worst scenario happens, what is your message to Malaysians?

Work, fight this corrupt, unjust system. But use all your resources, and focus on the elections because the election will determine the winner. That is my message. Elections.

Interview conducted by Steven Gan, Aidila Razak and Salhan K Ahmad.

Karpal confident Anwar will be acquitted

dap convention shah alam 080112 karpalReferring to Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister-in-waiting, DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh expressed confidence today that the PKR de facto leader will be acquitted on the sodomy charge against him.

“There is no doubt in my mind that tomorrow, Anwar will be acquitted. He is entitled to the acquittal,” declared Karpal. The verdict in the long-running Sodomy II trial will be delivered tomorrow.

The fact that Anwar had testified from the dock instead of taking the witness stand does not mean the defence cannot secure an acquittal, added Karpal (right).

“The solitary witness is Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. Look at his evidence, a man who says he was ravished but for two days he did nothing.

“The complainant had an affair with a deputy public prosecutor and showed signs of having access to the investigating officer. But the prosecution did not call him to deny the allegation.

“These are sufficient for an acquittal,” he said at the party’s national delegates conference in Shah Alam today.

For these reasons, Karpal added, an interim prime minister is not needed because Anwar would helm the country’s leadership when Pakatan Rakyat captures federal power.

Anwar the Unstoppable...

... because he personifies the people's intensifying desire to see an end to criminal misrule under the incurable Dr M, the ruthless Daim Zainuddin, and their vile legacy of arrogant, cynical, corrupt cronyism and despotism!

Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia's 7th prime minister, is destined to usher in a new era of democracy in Malaysia, with fresh faces, new blood and renewed dedication. More power to Pakatan Rakyat!

TIME TO KICK SOME BN ASS!

Those of you who have been following this blog for a while will probably have observed that I haven't been addressing political issues - at least not in my characteristic swashbuckling style - since I returned from an unplanned pilgrimage to the Sungai Buloh hospital in early January.

This isn't because I fear for my personal safety at the hands of an enraged Rais Yatim (right) - the irascible Information, Communications and Culture with a reputation for threatening bloggers with "stern action" - (which makes him sound like a closet pederast, if you happen to be familiar with nautical terminology).

Nor is it because I have given up the battle against BN's 53-year misrule. On the contrary, I'm as determined as ever that before too long all decent folk will be celebrating the installation of a Pakatan Rakyat federal government; the abolition of archaic oppressive laws; an exhaustive reform of the deformed police force, judiciary and civil service; and the flowering of a more democratic, more open and far more just new era in the nation's evolution.

The real reason I've taken a break from writing acerbic commentaries on the political scene is that I was enjoying a period of expanded consciousness that afforded me an eagle's eyeview of events occurring on multiple levels on this planet - and beyond. In effect, my focus was on the macro rather than the micro - and, besides, there are already enough political commentaries appearing on a daily basis on various blogs and news portals.

Unlike Raja Petra Kamarudin (left) - arguably the best-informed, most audacious political analyst and catalyst Malaysia has ever produced - I have little or no access to juicy gossip from within the corridors of power. At this juncture I can only repeat what I've been saying for the past few years (in fact, my entire adult life): Banish Umno/BN from power... or migrate!

I'm too long in the teeth to start all over again in a different country. So I have no option but to dig my heels in and contribute what I can towards the political sea and sky change that's long overdue.

I keep bumping into friends with rightwing views who stubbornly cling to the spurious notion that it's safer to support the devil you know - rather than risk an unknown quantity like Pakatan Rakyat taking over the reins of power. Such unimaginative perceptions are so tedious and tiresome to my ears I can hardly be bothered to argue with them.

However, all those who endorse the status quo are invariably from the comfortable upper middle class who made their pile during the Mahathir era. They were very much part of the rapid material growth Mahathir envisaged as crucial to his ambition to be leader of a "developed" nation and founder of a powerful political dynasty. For this segment of society, authoritarian and repressive governments are acceptable simply because they can maintain, by force if necessary, a degree of political stability. They know that obnoxious laws like the ISA and the Police Act against "illegal assembly" do not apply to them - only to rabble-rousing idealists and the long-suffering underclass.

Well, I am neither a rabble-rousing idealist nor a member of the oppressed underclass - but I cannot lend my support to authoritarianism of any stripe, especially when it's heavily laced with the grossly insensitive patriarchal bias that invariably accompanies a rapacious ecocidal agenda.

Najib's regime, taking a cue from the cynical and Machiavellian Dr Mahathir, is undeniably an authoritarian one with a patriarchal underbelly. It attempts to pump itself up through systematic propaganda (courtesy of public relations consultant APCO Worldwide) combined with brute force (courtesy of the Royal Malaysian Police and the Anti-Corruption Commission). It's above all an irredeemably corrupt and cynical rightwing fascist regime bereft of ideas and utterly indifferent to the population at large - except when elections are called and they need to go around buying votes and bribing constituents with baubles and instant projects.

On March 26th Anwar Ibrahim was the star speaker at a rally in Kuala Kubu Bharu to inaugurate the "Save Malaysia" campaign. There may have been as many as 10,000 people from as far away as Rawang and Tanjong Malim filling the KKB mini-stadium - and a tangible excitement rippled through the crowd when Anwar arrived, just before 11pm. It was the sort of thrill you might expect to feel at a rock concert just before the band takes its position on stage and the show's about to kick off.

Earlier the crowd had shown mentri besar Khalid Ibrahim a very warm welcome. It was obvious that the people genuinely like the new chief minister; their applause was spontaneous and wholehearted.

The moment Anwar took his place at the lectern he had the crowd eating out of his hand. He was in great comedic form as he took swipes at Najib's bungling attempts to continue pulling the wool over the sheeple's eyes.

It was impossible not to wish that I could fast-forward to a much more open-ended and promising future with Anwar Ibrahim securely installed as a prime minister we can sincerely love and respect - and Pakatan Rakyat forming the federal government with a comfortable majority in parliament.

Meanwhile, there's a significant by-election coming up in Ulu Selangor and I shall be forced to stick my nose back into the political stew and ensure that those Nazi wannabes in Umno/BN lose this one big time.

Najib: ISA rallies pointless
Rahmah Ghazali
July 31, 2009 | 7:46pm

The two ISA demonstrations planned for tomorrow are pointless since the government is already in the process of reviewing the security law, said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today.

He also said the rallies will not bring about any benefit.

"The most important thing is for them to give their ideas and feedback on how the government should improve the Act.

"Demonstrations will not solve any problems," he told reporters after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Tomorrow, two groups - one opposing and the other supporting the ISA - will take to the streets in Kuala Lumpur.

The Abolish ISA Movement (GMI by its Malay abbreviation) and Majlis Permuafakatan Ummah (Pewaris) have separately said they would go ahead with their gatherings despite stern police warnings.

Starting today, the police have also set up roadblocks at major traffic arteries throughout the Klang Valley towards Kuala Lumpur ahead of these two mass rallies. [Source: Malaysiakini]

HEY, JIBBY! YOU AND YOUR CRIMINAL AND TOTALLY CORRUPT REGIME ARE WHAT'S TRULY POINTLESS... INSTEAD OF SHOOTING YOUR PINK-LIPPED MOUTH OFF, WHY DON'T YOU DO THE NATION A FAVOR AND SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE ANUS? THANK YOU!

Photomontage courtesy of Mowadana (modified by Antares)

Such a sick, twisted mind our pathetic pink-lipped crime minister has! He thinks tomorrow's protest is against the ISA! The obnoxious ISA is merely symbolic of a repressive regime, you pompous poltroon. What the rakyat are really protesting is... YOU! We don't accept or acknowledge YOU, Najib Abdul Razak, as the leader of the nation. You were NOT elected by the majority of the voters - only by 190 corrupt Umno division chiefs (and a few retired but still evil Umno warlords) who pushed you into power so they can continue to plunder the wealth of the country and rape the environment and behave as if they are God's gift to Malaysia.

The sooner you get the message, the better for all of us. Don't waste OUR money on your expensive spin-doctors, Jibby. Can you hear the rakyat sniggering and/or cursing every time you appear in the news? Nobody loves you except your mama - and she's long dead. Your fat witch wife doesn't really love you. She only used you to climb the social ladder and taste the worldly power she craves. The moment you're out of office, she will treat you worse than a pack mule. It's written on her face.

And by the way, Jibby, please tell your beloved cousin the homo minister... he'd better keep a tight rein on his Rottweilers in Blue. If any of my buddies get hurt or arrested tomorrow... there will be VERY NASTY KARMA multiplied by 100,000 on your receding hairline. I'm dead serious, bub. You bunch of braindead twits in Putrajaya have no clue what hideous danger you are putting yourselves in. When the voodoo that keeps you in power backfires.... boy, I would HATE to be in your skin!

NO-WIN FOR NAJIB

Malaysiakini | 5 July 2009

"If Anwar goes to jail, the opposition will be stronger because Anwar will be seen as a martyr."

The United States and Amnesty International have raised concerns over the charges against Anwar, who in his first trial was brought to court with a black eye after a vicious beating from the police chief.

The earlier charges emerged after he challenged veteran ruler Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The latest allegations followed the landmark polls that give him an excellent chance of victory in the next general election.

Many Malaysians, weary of political dirty-tricks and corruption in the justice system, believe the affair is a ploy to sideline Anwar and distract attention from an unpopular government and a looming recession.

A survey last year found just 11 percent of Malaysians believed the accusations that Anwar sodomised Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who was then a 23-year-old volunteer at his office.

Anwar: A deeply flawed case

Anwar, 61, spent six years in jail until 2004 when the nation's highest court overturned the sodomy conviction. After a few years of recuperation he emerged to build the most successful opposition force the country has seen.

He is the undisputed glue in the Pakatan Rakyat, an alliance of three unlikely partners - his own multiracial PKR party, the conservative Islamic party PAS, and the liberal Chinese-based DAP.

Contrary to fears the opposition could spin apart if Anwar is convicted and jailed, leading Southeast Asia academic Bridget Welsh said that at least initially it could galvanise its supporters and give it a sense of unity.

"But the issue is long term, it's the question of who would then lead the opposition and that raises certain types of questions," she said, including the issue of which party should come out on top.

Anwar says the case against him is deeply flawed, and remains defiant about his prospects and that of his party.

"There is no question of the Pakatan Rakyat continuing, surviving. It will continue to defend the rights of the people and challenge the government, gaining strength from any conviction made against me," he told AFP last week.

"In fact I think a conviction against me will enrage a lot of people," he said. "I am ready for all eventualities and prepared to face attacks - expect the best and prepare for the worst."

Anwar's first trial was full of drama, lurid testimony, and headline-grabbing incidents including one when a mattress supposedly stained with semen was hauled into the courtroom.

The current hearing, which begins on Wednesday and is expected to last at least several weeks, is likely to get off to a slow start with legal argument over evidence and a defence motion to strike out the charges altogether. - AFP

WE KNOW YOU'RE NO MAMA'S BOY, JIBBY.

YOU'VE SHOWN US IN PERAK YOU CAN PLAY ROUGH.

NOW LET'S SEE YOU DO SOMETHING SMART FOR A CHANGE.
