LIGHTNING GOT MY MODEM... AGAIN!

Well, it's a Sunday and the only place in Kuala Kubu Bharu where I might have picked up a new modem is the cybercafe I use whenever my phone line is down. Unfortunately they don't sell any basic modems. No way I'll fork out RM200+ for a Level One modem with built-in wireless router. So I'll just have to wait till the Kedai Telekom opens tomorrow to sort it out. Meanwhile, read all about the mysteries of lightning here.

  2. Sorry to hear of your strike again, unfortunately, not lottery.

I tried my best to unplug my computer, including the telephone line to the modem before I go out even for a short couple of hours because our weather can be so unpredictable. The modem, like the fax machine, is exceptionally vulnerable to sudden surges in electricity. Leaving home having unplugged, gives me a certain peace of mind.

Once down, when desperate, even the basic cable modem supplied by TM is better than nothing! To do with addiction to the net.

This one, I afraid, cannot blame Big Brother.

  4. Oh Antares, I so know how you must feel! I've been there too often to want it to happen again :(

I've no sage advice. Perhaps the unplugging idea is best - especially since you seem to be where lightning seems to strike more than once ....

Hope to see you back soon :)

  5. Quick Update: Damage not as bad I thought. Modem power adaptor kaput (got a free replacement from my friendly neighborhood TMPoint)... and just discovered the splitter has to be replaced. Modem and router miraculously escaped! Thanks for your comments, folks :-) xox
